Café Vegetal
About This Spot
Stepping into Café Vegetal is like slipping into a quiet pocket of Narvarte Poniente where warmth and calm gently settle around you. The thoughtful, sunlit space offers an inviting refuge from the bustling city streets, with soft natural light filtering through leafy greenery and subtle details that soften the edges of everyday life. It’s the kind of place that encourages slowing down—whether you’re here to savor your first coffee of the day or share a relaxed afternoon treat with a friend.
There’s an approachable, unassuming charm in the way the café balances its roots in vegan cuisine with the familiar comforts of a local neighborhood spot. The pace here isn’t hurried; instead, it invites you to linger on the gentle aromas of freshly brewed cappuccinos or the sweet, nostalgic scent of baked goods like cinnamon rolls and delicate conchas crafted with care.
More than just a coffee shop, Café Vegetal embraces the daily ritual of sharing meals that nourish both body and spirit. Whether it’s the subtly spiced tofu scramble or the mindful layering of flavors in dishes that transform local ingredients into something both comforting and new, each bite feels considered. The menu’s blend of inventive takes on Mexican classics and cozy brunch staples weaves an experience that’s both heartening and quietly surprising.
What truly stands out is the warmth carried by the people who work here — their attentiveness quietly amplifies the welcoming mood without ever feeling overbearing. It’s a place where you can trust the hands preparing your food to respect both tradition and innovation, and where you leave feeling that the little moments of care have been noticed and returned.
For those who find joy in unrushed mornings or gentle pauses in the day, Café Vegetal offers a kind of steady calm paired with vibrant flavors — a humble neighborhood haven where the simple act of eating becomes a way to connect with the city’s gentler rhythms.

Let me share my delightful experience at Cafe Vegetal with you! When my husband and I arrived in CDMX, Cafe Vegetal was our second restaurant stop, and boy, were we in for a treat! First things first, the place itself is super cute, adding a warm touch to the experience. But let's talk about the conchas – my main reason for visiting. They absolutely lived up to the hype! The sweet bread? Oh, it's a dream. My husband couldn't get enough of the cinnamon rolls, and while the coffee might not be the best I've had, it definitely gets the job done. Now, onto the food. The portions are generous and the flavors are simply delicious. The breakfast dishes, in particular, are a standout – they make for the perfect morning feast. My second time around, I decided to try the chocolate cake. Sadly, it turned out a bit dry for my taste. But don't let that dampen your spirits, because everything else on the menu is top-notch. All in all, I highly recommend a visit to Cafe Vegetal, especially for a scrumptious breakfast. It's a place where you can savor the flavors, enjoy the charming ambiance, and form your own judgment. Don't miss out on this delightful spot – the conchas alone make it worth the visit!

Yet another amazing vegan spot in CDMX. Excellent food and service, and a shaded, quiet patio out front!

Delicious vegan desserts! Also enjoyed the peanut tofu bowl another day. We did pay cash and were not given change which was abnormal.

Place is nice and cozy, stuff is friendly. I have tried only scrambled tofu with ham and ice latte. Tofu was dryish, taste was ok but could be much much better. I don’t think that I will order it again. Maybe just unlucky today. Will come back to try something else. They offer different menu for breakfast and lunch.

First of all, the servers were so nice and polite. I thank them for their kindness. They were very attentive and prompt. And even in the end, when I asked for a box for my leftovers, one of them offered to do it for me. Food was excellent. I don’t normally love tofu scramble but this one surprised me. I got the full breakfast. I just feel very safe in vegan cafes, not having to double and triple check on menu items. We all have the same agenda. Perhaps it was my lack of sleep or I am secretly an old person deep inside (or my ADHD): The only thing that could have been more pleasant was the volume. I was first sitting outside, and this dude started playing the guitar à meter away from me. And it was a very sharp playing. So I went inside to get some distance from him, but now the cafe sounds were mixing with the sharp guitar notes. I opened my laptop, but I couldn’t find the Wi-Fi username. I thought to ask the girl in front for help but my brain was already in a chaos from all the noise, so I just ate my food. I had really been looking forward to soft cafe vibes. But at this point, I just wanted to finish my meal and get out of there. I’d definitely give it another try, maybe the ambiance is better at other hours. But today, it was not for me.

Super cute hole in the wall and incredibly friendly staff, the breakfast was amazing and dirt cheap. The tofu revuelto was especially good very creamy and filling. Absolutely hoping to come here again

I don’t even know where to start this place is AMAZING!!! We love everything here we ate 3 times here during our 6 day trip lol the breakfast is unreal! Highly recommend the pancakes and the pulled “pork” sandwich & scrambled egg dish & the strawberry leche cake SO GOOD! Also my hubby says their chai tea is the best in Mexico City! They are popular & tend to be busy so if it’s a holiday I recommend giving yourself some extra time to enjoy! If not you can always grab and go!

Amazing food, no matter your dietary preference and well worth any small wait. Our kids loved the pancakes and we enjoyed the chilaquiles and scrambled tofu plate :)
